Steven's Pass Avalance Dogs hasn't added a story.
Stevens Pass Avalanche Dogs
History
The idea of Avalanche rescue dogs digging around Stevens Pass first came up in 1991. At that time there were only about a dozen trained ‘avy dogs’ in the country. By 1993, the first pack of dogs, Denali, Bo and Chaser, were blazing a trail that many others would follow. Every winter since then, dedicated Ski Patrollers have committed to the challenge and reward of becoming a dog handler, adding to their regular ‘on hill’ chores the extra effort of training an avalanche rescue dog. Stevens Pass Ski Patrol has trained over 20 avalanche dogs since 1993, and today has a pack of 7 dogs in various stages of their career.
Service
Avalanche dogs come to work every day with their handlers, and are ready to respond to an emergency inside or outside the ski area boundary. In the event of an avalanche, it is their priority to get a dog team to the site as quickly and safely as possible, along with other essential rescue equipment and personnel. Stevens Pass Avalanche Rescue Dogs is a member of the Back Country Avalanche Rescue K-9 (BARK) group, a statewide, non-profit, volunteer based mountain rescue organization of professional ski patrollers and avalanche rescue dogs. BARK teams from Stevens, Crystal, and Alpental train with local county Search & Rescue Sheriffs Deputies to respond via helicopter to remote avalanche accidents. These BARK teams are ready to respond 24/7 throughout the winter.
Funding
Steven's Pass Avalanche dogs are a non-profit entity and are not funded by the ski lodge company. They are a private organization who relies on fundraising to keep working. This is where YOU can help!

Working dogs are my passion and I am serving as their Ambassador!
-
I'm Holly Cook and I am a strong advocate for working dog organizations.
This campaign is helping to raise necessary funds for Rogue Detection Teams, Steven's Pass Avalanche Dogs, K9 Conservationists and Wind River Bear Institute. -
Working dog organizations are vital but they lack two
things: time and money.
All of these organizations serve their communities in important ways. In addition to training the dogs and personnel, these organizations also have to raise money, but they have very little time to do so. -
I am serving as ambassador for working dog
organizations.
This is where I come in! As a self appointed ambassador for working dog organizations, I can create fun fundraising opportunities that engage my audience, as well as the organization's audience. In a perfect world, all of the audiences would come together to support all of the organizations. -
How can you help?
Support one or all of the organizations with a monetary donation or check out their Amazon wish lists (if they have one). Follow them on social media and share!
- K9 Conservationists as an added incentive, if you donate $100 or more to K9 Conservationists, you will receive a hand written post card and some "fieldwork finds" (no, it's not scat.)

- Wind River Bear Institute as an added incentive, if you donate $100 or more to Wind River Bear Institute, you will receive a signed post card from Soledad and a WRBI logo sticker!
- Rogue Detection Teams
The funds that are raised during this fundraiser will help each organization purchase items for the dogs, such a food, equipment, vet bills and other daily needs.
$20 - could purchase a small bag of dog food
$50 - could purchase a large bag of dog food
$100 - could purchase a large bag of dog food and small, essential equipment (leashes, collars, etc)
$200 - could purchase a working dog vest
$300 - could pay for a standard vet visit
$500 - could purchase equipment such as gps trackers, specialized tools & equipment for the dogs, OR it could purchase 10 large bags of dog food OR pay an unexpected, emergency vet bill.
Think about how much you spend on your own personal dog, now consider having multiple dogs who have specialized jobs!
Thank you for taking the time to show your support! Our goal is to raise $1,000 for each organization and, with your help, I am hopeful we will reach our goal!
