It happens all the time - A Dog Mom or Dad passes away and for all the reasons in the world, nobody in the family of that loved one can take their dogs. Everyone in the family "loves the dogs so much" but nobody can take them in.
That is what happened to Sherman. He and his brother Peanut lost their Dad and nobody in their Dad's family was willing or able to step up for them.
Sherman had lost his Dad, but sadly, that was the least of his problems. After coming to DRSF with Peanut, we learned that Sherman was heart worm positive and that was not all. This sweet boy needed a pretty extensive dental along with removing masses that had grown between his toes.
Due to his age and the condition of his heart, a general vet was not in Sherman's best interest for having the masses removed and dental done, so along with giving Sherman a safe place to land, he was off to Broward Veterinary Specialists to have his procedures done.
If you have dogs, we can't stress enough how important it is to have a conversation with your family to confirm what will happen to them should something happen to you and to maybe even go the extra mile and set up a pet trust for them.
We know that Sherman's Dad's heart would be broken if he knew his sweet boys were left with nothing they knew from their previous life and even more so that Sherman was in need of such extensive care.
We have done a lot of asking this week, but it is your help that makes it possible for us to continue to be the safe place to land for those who have lost not just their home, but their Dad too.
