Dachshund Rescue South Florida hasn't added a story.
Sometimes things things don't go right and sometimes when it rains it pours. When it pours and your name is Lucky, it makes things seem that much worse and that is what is happening to Lucky right now.
President Pam got a call from an emergency vet practice that is not one of our regular partners looking for a miracle.
This wonderful vet had a 10 year old chi, maybe 7 lbs, who had been brought in for a painful neck - maybe cervical IVDD. Lucky's owner tried to do the right thing and get him seen but Lucky's Dad is very old and wasn't equipped to care for a sick little chi who might be looking at a few weeks crate rest or maybe even IVDD surgery and Lucky's Dad opted to euthanize him and this incredible vet did not want to euthanize Lucky and wanted to find a solution for him.
Amazing Vet - "Could we take a 7 lb Chi suffering from neck pain who might have IVDD?"
Us...."mmmmmm.....Chi? What if he needs surgery? Chi's can be hard to place, especially ones with up ears....gosh we don't know...let us think for a minute"
And then the photo arrived and it was the saddest little face, and if you have ever been around a dog in severe neck pain, the way they hold their heads at weird angles to try and make it not hurt so much just about rips your beating heart right out of your chest, and this little man had lost his Dad and was on the verge of losing his life as there aren't rescue groups lining up to "maybe'"do cervical IVDD on 10 year old chi's.
Yes, we will take him.
Lucky the chi became an honorary dachshund and has been transferred to LeadER where we are beyond hopeful that some pain meds, steroids, and crate rest can get him on the right track and holding his little head up again.
We are back again to ask your support to make sure our safety net is there to help those dogs who have nowhere else to go, and to also help the vets who are faced with these heartbreaking -literal life and death situations- every day who have nobody else to call and experience a relief we can not even imagine, that they were not forced to euthanize a dog they didn't want to.
Your donation of even $1 helps make sure we can continue to be there for both of them and even if you are not able to donate, your comment or share doesn't dost a dime and helps their story reach more people.
We can't do it without you and tonight Lucky is alive and getting the care he needs to have his 2nd chance....
