We have been at this for a very long time and just when we think we have seen it all, the universe is all “hold my beer”....

 

Meet Guppy. 

 

Guppy is all of 4 months old and extremely malnourished. 

 

“Why the actual hell isn’t someone feeding this puppy and who do we ride at dawn to get for starving him????” you ask? 

 

Well, as with so many things in this world, the answer isn’t what it seems….Guppy was indeed getting fed, but due a birth defect, he is not able to eat hardly anything as he has a cleft palate.  Not just a cleft lip, but an entire cleft palate.  And not only does Guyppy have a cleft palate, he has the mother of all cleft palates - literally the entire length of his mouth, split in half….the whole thing….wide open.

 

Every time this little man tries to eat something it gets all up and his sinuses (and possibly further- who knows) and he hacks and honks and snorts and maybe the tiniest bit of hit makes it to his tummy. 

 

Aside from the fact that it is a miracle he hasn’t starved to death, it is an equally big miracle that he hasn’t aspirated yet, and sadly, it is only a matter of time until one of those two happen.

 

As soon as he made it to our door, Guppy went straight to LeadER to met with Dr. Marin, Advanced Veterinary Surgeon, and the good news is that she can help Guppy, but it is a BIG procedure with lots of after care.  

 

We are up to our eyeballs in puppies and are holding our breath that you agree that Guppy deserves a chance to live a long, happy, healthy life and not slowly starve to death.  Dr. Marin is making sure he is stable and then he will be going right to surgery as time is of the essence.

 

We can only do what we can do as so many amazing people make it happen.  As always, our miracles are made $1 at a time and equally important - a donation does not have to be big to be impactful - they are all made with love and just $1 gets you bragging rights to the hardest working, biggest loving team in rescue.
