Dachshund Rescue South Florida hasn't added a story.

Frederick was recently adopted from a local rescue group and shortly after getting him home, his family realized that something wasn’t right and he was in need of medical care.

Frederick's family did what they should have done – they contacted the rescue, who provided some steroids and sent them on their way.  Frederick’s family gave the steroids a chance and quickly realized that he needed care way above and beyond some steroids and brought Frederick to PAWS.

Sweet Frederick is mess – he has bruises all over his abdomen, his teeth are a disaster, his gums are white, was clearly in distress and his new family was not in a position to take on whatever diagnostics and treatment he was going to need and so Frederick came to DRSF.

Dr. Riff at PAWS did an initial exam, ran some bloodwork and we have reason to believe that Frederick is suffering from IPT – Immune Medicated Thrombocytopenia, “an autoimmune disorder where the body's immune system mistakenly destroys its own platelets (thrombocytes), which are crucial for blood clotting, leading to increased risk of severe bleeding, bruising, lethargy, and pale gums.”

Frederick was quickly transferred to LeadER where he is under the care of Dr. Palvides, an Advanced Critical Care Specialist, who is running additional testing to confirm we have the right diagnosis– a Tic panel, a pathologic review of Frederck’s CBC, and full body x-rays.  Once we know that we have the correct diagnosis, Dr. Palvides can work on a treatment plan to hopefully help Frederick get the care he needs to have his second, second chance.

We have done a whole lot of asking these last couple weeks on big ticket, urgent medical needs that are hard to see, thus hard to fundraise for.  We can only do what you make possible and we have fingers and paws crossed that you will agree that Frederick’s is worth it!!!  Thank you!
