This is the truth of how rescue often begins...

Darwin was brought to the veterinarian to be euthanized after IVDD left him paralyzed. His family was heartbroken, but like so many, they were not in a position to care for a paralyzed dog, and they made the difficult decision to let him go.

But the veterinarian who saw him that day was not ready to let his story end there.

She asked for time to find a different solution. 

Through a chain of people bound together by compassion — a relief vet who does work at LeadER, to a LeadER veterinary technician, and finally to us — Darwin was given another another option and most importantly a chance. 

Time was of the essence and our partners and friends at Pet Ambulance and Wellness Services joined the team to save Darwin and fought Dade County traffic to get him from Aventura to Miami and to Southeast Veterinary Neurology who knew that he was incoming with a limited window to get him to surgery if Darwin had any chance to walk again. 

Because of them, he is here tonight.

He does not know how close he came to losing everything. He only knows that he is safe.

We said "Yes" as "No" was not an option for us.
