Dachshund Rescue South Florida hasn't added a story.
Sometimes rescue is for the people as much as the animals. Today, Schatzie found herself at SEVN in Pompano where her Dad had brought her because Schatzie had IVDD.
Schatzie's Dad was not in a position to afford the surgery she needed and making it through 8 weeks of crate rest was not an option for him.
If surgery is not an option and crate rest is not an option, there is only one other option to be discussed.
It is so easy to say "find a way to get the surgery" or "why can't he do crate rest?" We don't know what it is like to walk in Schatzie's Dad's shoes as Shatzie was her Mom's dog and her Mom passed 3 years ago, and we can't help but believe that Shatzie's Dad's heart hurts and he can only do what he can do, and it isn't our place to judge what he can or can't or should or shouldn't be able to do when we don't know his whole story.
As that "other option" began to be discussed, the SEVN team knew that there was one more Hail Mary option that was out there.
These kind of conversations are very delicate and nobody ever wants to offer something that they can't deliver on and so, a member of the SEVEN team discretely stepped out of the exam room to make a phone call to a very special phone number.
They held their breath as there was only once chance as the call rang through....
President Pam picked up....with tears in their eyes, the team at SEVN told Pam the story of the Dad, and a sweet 9 year old girl who needed help that the Dad was not in a position to provide and they only wanted the best for this sweet girl. Would DRSF take her?
"Yes, yes, absolutely we will take her..."
It is hard to understand, but sometimes surrender can be a blessing. It was the best thing for Schatzie, it was the best thing for Schatzie's Dad, and it gave the SEVN team in Pompano a way to save a life today.
Tonight, Schatzie is under the care of Dr. Kornberg in Miami (where Schatzie was driven by that very team member who made the call to save her life as the Pompano MRI was on the fritz).
Schatzie's day could have ended much differently. Tonight she is safe with us and will go to surgery this evening to maximize the possibility of her recovery, but we need your help to cover her care so that we can be there for Schatzie and the next little one who is out there and will need us soon.
We think her life is worth it and we hope you do to. Can we count on you for a donation of any size to help us cover her surgery?
