Dachshund Rescue South Florida hasn't added a story.
All IVDD surgeries are hard to fundraise for, but the hardest ones of all are IVDD surgeries for dogs already in foster care and coming off the heels of 7 cases of parvo that we don’t even know if we have our heads above water yet, why wouldn’t we have a case of IVDD for a dog already in foster care?
Who is the foster adding IVDD onto 7 cases of parvo? Let us set the stage……
Do you remember Lupita, the senior who came to us from Puerto Rico and her teeth were in such bad shape that this poor girl suffered an abscess blow out on her face while in the air?
99% of the time we tell these kind of dog stories – the sweet dog who suffered horribly from years of neglect and despite all of it, when they got to us their still wagging tail ripped our hearts out of our chest with the cruelty of it all, and once they are all fixed up the dog is even sweeter than they were before as they knew that they had been saved…..the stuff of rescue dreams!
Lupita is the foster that went down.
Lupita is not that super sweet dog who is grateful for everything we have done for her.
Do you know what Lupita is?
Lupita is mad as hell, at everything and everyone.
Don’t love on her, don’t snuggle on her, but just let her be and she is happy as a clam except for head scratches from her Foster Mom who adores her spiciness.
So, coming off 7 cases of parvo, we had a decision to make – do we do IVDD surgery on a super cranky 10 year old who will likely be a long term, if not forever foster? Our list of foster homes who will take an IVDD dog is pretty short and we are pretty sure none of them are signing up for a forever foster with IVDD.
So our choices were either surgery, or what?
So to Southeast Veterinary Neurology Lupita is going.
After all the parvo fundraising we preferred not to ask for money again until sometime in mid 2026, but here we are, back again to ask your support for an IVDD surgery for a cranky old lady who prefers to be left alone so that she can hopefully be cranky an able to walk for however much time she has left, otherwise, she would be a paralyzed cranky old lady with nowhere to go.
Every dollar counts and if everyone gave even $1, we could have Lupita funded in no time. Thank you for making it possible for us to do the right thing for both the dogs who come to us and the ones already in our care.
