Three sick little dogs were found alone on a beach in Puerto Rico....
Stray dogs here have it bad, but the situation in Puerto Rico is heartbreakingly much, much worse.
The message arrived asking if we could help - three small dogs with painful eye ulcers, sick and alone on a beach in PR had been trapped and desperately in need of medical care and a chance.
Could we help?
We made our commitment to Klara, Gretel, and Heidi, and their rescuers in PR got them ready to travel.
Sadly, Heidi was not strong enough to hold on until she could have her chance.
At just over a year old, her tiny body was already profoundly depleted. Her hemoglobin was only 9.9 , and despite efforts to save her, she simply wasn’t strong enough to keep fighting and our hearts break that we could not give her her chance.
But we can give Klara and Gretel their chance and we hope you think they are worth it.
Both traveled to us and arrived in Miami and will be seen by Dr. Riff and her team at PAWS this week. They will need a full workup - an exam, bloodwork, vaccines, spay/neuter, dentals and treatment for their eyes.
We can only say yes as long as you keep making it possible and each dollar donated will make it so that these beautiful girls will have every chance to have a life as long and loved as they deserve.

P.S. And tonight, please hold a little space in your heart for Heidi. She mattered. She was known. And although we couldn’t give her the long life she deserved, we will make sure she feels the same love as we will get to give to her friends.
