The hits keep coming and rescue does not rest, even on Sunday.  Meet Archie, a 1 year old wire haired little man who came to us from a local shelter a week or so ago.

Many of our community may not be familiar with the amount of illness in the shelters (especially in South Florida....sigh) and when animals go into the shelters, their immune systems are already low due to neglect, stress, and also - thank you South Florida - chances are not great that they have even been immunized.

Suffice to say that we battle a good amount of "post pull" illnesses including kennel cough and a small number of kennel cough cases go the extra mile and turn into pneumonia.  And some of those cases of pneumonia go the "even extra-er" mile and require a dog to be on oxygen if they are going to beat the pneumonia.

That is what happened to Archie - he was doing his quarantine at Dr. Bruce's Animal Hospital, developed kennel cough, that turned into pneumonia and Archie was having such difficulty breathing, he was transferred to LeadER where he received an ultrasound of his lungs with Dr. Phillips who then consulted with Dr. Schroeder - Veterinary Cardiologist as the ultrasound looked a bit "funky" and Dr. Phillips wanted a 2nd opinion.

Archie will be hanging out in Oxygen for a few days, and we are back again, on bended knee, hoping that you have it in you to help us help Archie.  It isn't his fault his "family" (and we use that term loosely) didn't care for him properly and we couldn't let him sit there and struggle to breathe when there are so many good things just ahead of him.
