It happened again today.....the words that make our fundraising team go pale...HBC (Hit By Car) unable to stand. That usually means only one thing, the dreaded broken pelvis- the dog looks perfectly fine on the outside, but is crushed on the inside. Nothing visible to insprie people to give, a horrific injury you can't SEE. Our Fundraiser writer remained stoic.....we have done this before, we can do it again, another $6k so soon on the heels our $10,000 weekend with Kewpie and Jersey last weekend.....
And then the pictures came and the dog was adorable, and then the video came, and the dog had the biggest, sweetest eyes you have ever seen, and then the question was immediately text back to the medical team...."What the heck are we supposed to do with this? This dog is stunning and there isn't a scratch on him!!!! How the heck do you expect us to raise $6k for this perfect specimen of a doxie with doe eyes? Are we sure we have the right dog??? What sort of miracle workers do you think we are???
Alas, we do have the right dog, and alas, he is nothing short of stunning....we have named him Dutton, and Dr. Horgan at Veterinary Specialists of South Florida has confirmed that Dutton is nothing short of shatterd inside.....multiple pelvic fractures and a severely displaced fracture of the hind left.
He stood no chance of being adopted in the condition he was in, and we could not let those doe eyes be euthanized without trying, so now our Fundraizing team is alternating between hyperventilating and gently weeping as $6.000 is not easy to come by, and it is nearly impossible to come by with a dog that looks like this.
If we can't raise it, it comes right out of our war chest and with being over 60 dogs ahead of where we were at this time last year, our war chest is looking more like a "war shoebox" these days. If we can't cover Dutton, it impedes our ability to help the next "Dutton" who gets hit by a car next weekend or the weekend after.
We know he is stunning, we know he is adorable, we know he has eyes that look like something out of a Disney movie, but he has a severe, un-seeable injury, that will take a highly trained surgeon to put him back together again and he would have died without us.....
Would you consider a donation of any size, giving up even one $5 latte this week to help save a life of a dog that is nothing short of the perfect specimen of doxie and doesn't look like he needs a thing in the world?
Our Fundraising team needs you, Dutton needs you, and most importantly, the "Duttons" who have not even found their way to our door yet need you too...will you help us?
