Dachshund Rescue South Florida hasn't added a story.
We just got Schatzie across her funding finish line for a case of neck IVDD and the universe has brought another one to our door and this one is even harder. W e are so frigging stressed about this, the same amazing donor who helped us get Schatzie across her Funding Finish Line has stepped forward AGAIN to DOUBLE your doxie dollars up to $500 as this is a BIG ask for so many reasons.
There is no such thing as an “easy” IVDD fundraiser as it is a high ticket medical need (even with the generous consideration that SEVN provides to us) but if a dog comes to us abandoned by their family at a shelter with IVDD and we are the only thing standing between them and being euthanized, that is one heck of a compelling story that people can help but connect with and want to donate.
At any given time we can have 30+ dogs already in our care that have already been treated for SO many things and are ready to go, actively searching for their forever homes. They are safe, they are loved, and their lives are not hanging in the balance.
But unfortunately, IVDD doesn’t give a flip about that.
IVDD can strike any dog at any time.
Even to a dog who is already safe and on their rescue journey.
Their life does not hang in the balance….there is no compelling reason to give, especially with neck IVDD.
That is what has happened to Godiva.
Godiva has been with us since April, an owner surrender who came to us from Puerto Rico.
She is sweet, and pretty, and a little shy due to what she has been through, but she has been making progress - Until she started screaming in pain every time she was picked up. No bueno.
This is by no means our first rodeo with IVDD and given her symptoms, Godiva headed to Dr. DePompa at SEVN and a neuro exam followed up by an MRI quickly identified IVDD in her neck.
Crap.
Here we go again.
We are back on the hook for another IVDD surgery after our community has funded one already this week.
Godiva is pretty, she looks great, she is not dragging herself along. Her life was not hanging in the balance.
We get it….This is not a compelling story. We are even struggling on how to write this fundraiser.
If Godiva was in the shelter we would pull her and provide surgery, so if Godiva is in foster care and needs surgery, we will also provide her surgery cause that is how we roll.
Either way, we are on the hook for it.
If we can cover the cost of her surgery we are in great shape. If we cannot cover the cost of her surgery, our war chest will have to eat it and that has the potential to impact our ability to help others in the future.
So here we are, back yet again, on bended knee, with the backing of a generous donor who has put $1,000 on the line in one week to help us keep making miracles.
This is a chance to double your doxie donation dollars and every $1 donated becomes $2. $5 becomes $10. You get the idea…..if everyone gave even $1, we could have Godiva’s surgery funded in no time.
Your donation make our work possible and we can only do what you empower us to do. Can Godiva (and our war chest) count on you for even a few dollars to help her get the care she needs AND be ready to help whoever comes next? Our treasurer, who is currently hyperventilating about this thanks you from the bottom of her heart.....
