It always starts the same, with an email, from a family looking for help. They have a dog that they love who is suffering from IVDD and not having the funds for the surgery is only part of the problem - they are also not able to provide the after care needed on the back of the procedure.
Meet Martini. This is what happened to her.
Surrender was the best choice for her family. It might not be the choice we would have made, but but just because a choice isn't the one we would have made doesn't mean that it isn't right one, or best one at the time, for someone else.
Every IVDD dog we take is a gamble - a gamble if we can raise the funds and a gamble they will come out the other side able to walk.
But if we say no, then where does she go?
Martini is now under the care of Southeast Veterinary Neurology and is being evaluated to see if she is a candidate for surgery.
Her life wasn't hanging in the balance at the shelter so we don't even have that as a heartbreaking story to fundraise for her care so we are hoping with everything we got that no matter how IVDD dogs come to us, you believe like we do, that they are all worth it.
We are back on the hook for another big procedure (and Mugsy's surgery is going to be way bigger than we thought and his fundraising didn't go so well last night, so now we are extra twirly) and have fingers and paws crossed that you have it in you to make another IVDD miracle.
