Most dogs are not equipped to live outside in any climate, but
dachshunds are more severely effected than most by the elements,
especially in south Florida.... The extreme heat, the unbearable
humidity, the parasites, the horrible rain storms...
Salem (the brown long hair) and Raven (the black and tan) have
spent way too much time as back yard dogs and it has taken its toll
on these 2 beautiful 11 year olds.
They came to us after a wonderful woman was made aware of their
plight and contacted DRSF to help them.
Both girls have a long list of medical issues including:
horrible, rotten and abcessed teeth, painful skin infections, flea
infested, and intestinal parasites. The worst of the issues is Salem
has a melting ulcer of her eye that has gone on so long that the eye
is dead and unsalvageable, she will need surgery to have that eye
removed to make her as happy and healthy as she can be.
After the week we have had, we were almost afraid to ask for
your help yet again, but we feel confident that our community, who
has stood by us and supported us for so long, will be willing to
help us help these 2 senior girls who need us so badly.
They are being treated at Bravo Animal Clinic and we will get
Salem to an eye specialist ASAP!
This is a special kind of plea... Not only do we need financial
help for these girls, but we desperately need a foster home or 2
that would be willing to take in these girls and help them feel the
comforts of inside living and the love of a family.
