We have been at this for a very long time and have seen more than our fair share of heartbreaking situations and medical miracles, but we have never seen them converge like this...
A blast went out from the shelter last night for urgent medical rescue for a dachshund.
Less than 10 minutes after the blast, we had our hold and naturally asked what we were looking at medically and the answer broke our hearts.
He had been shot.
Twice.
Because it was so late in the day, this sweet boy had to wait, with bullet wounds cleaned as best they could, until this afternoon to be pulled and the brave boy we have named Triton went right to LeadER, where President Pam had let them know we were incoming with a dachshund with bullet wounds.
We would soon come to understand that multiple gunshot wounds were the least of Triton's issues....
As part of the work up at LeadER, x-rays were taken and that is when Triton's medical condition became a complete miracle and more complex than anything we have ever seen before in that Triton has two bullets lodged in him.
Ok - so the situation is not great, but he looks pretty good, aside from the bullet wounds, right?
We can't make this stuff up...... two bullets, two different locations internally in Triton-
One bullet is in his back - again, sure as hell not something you would choose, and pretty frigging miraculous that somehow this sweet boy walked himself into LeadER.
The 2nd bullet?
It is in his heart.
Yes.
In.
His.
Heart.
Dr. Spahn, Emergency Medicine Specialist has zero idea how Triton is even alive at this point, let alone walking.
What do you do about a bullet literally IN a dogs heart?
We have no idea.
Do you know who will know what our options are for Triton and the bullet in his heart?

Can we save him?
We don't know.
Are we going to try?
We sure as hell are.
Is karma gonna come full tilt for whoever did this?
We ask you to ask whatever entity you believe in to make that karma come ten-fold for anyone who allowed this to happen.
