It has been a crazy weekend with a lot of travel and miles logged on the road, but late last night, our weary crew arrived at Dr. Bruce's Animal Hospital with 17 dogs who will be starting their new lives.
It took a plane, a rental car, supplies sent ahead, sleepless nights, hot spots to create spreadsheets while on the road, lots of coffee, a few drive through's but the dogs and our travel team safely at 11PM last night.
Two of our incredible volunteers met the travel team when they arrived and the unload began - getting everyone out, cleaned up from the ride, given a Capstars, photographed, fed, watered, crates cleaned and re-set, logistical decisions of "who is going to go where" for the transports pre-arranged for Monday, and even more questions of "who is this??" and thankfully having a spreadsheet and photos to reference to make sure we kept everyone straight in the wee hours of the morning.

We are back on the hook again for 16 more of everything needed for an intake - 16 beds, blankets, harnesses, 16 sets of blood work, 16 Capstars, 16 spay/neuters, 16 rounds of vaccines, 16 heartworm tests, 16 dentals, and this is before we find out if anyone needs any additional issues. After some job cost accounting on the last round, we are averaging $500 per dog before we even open a crate.
You have given so much over the last couple weeks, and we have fingers and paws crossed that our community will be here to support us again as we are ramping up to make 16 more happy endings.
This has the potential to be a huge hit to our war chest and will govern who we can say yes to moving forward. We are a little freaked out and are going to say a prayer and light a candle and hope that you agree that they are all worth it.
