Dachshund Rescue South Florida hasn't added a story.
Biscotti's Foster Mom knew there was something wrong after she hadn't eaten in a few days and was very lethargic. When she didn't even move for home made chicken soup at 9PM, it was time to pay a visit to the vet and preferably the next morning.
A volunteer responded to the Doxie Taxi Request posted by Joanna our Transport Coordinator and President Pam was on the phone to Pet Medical Center of Boca 1st thing that morning and Dr. Hughes graciously cleared some room in his schedule to see Biscotti.
Bloodwork revealed that Biscotti was suffering from pancreatitis, which while not fabulous for a 9 year old frosty faced little potato with shorty short legs, was something treatable. Biscotti's Foster Mom breathed a big 'ole sigh of relief as Bicscotti had come to DRSF with some pretty raging heartworm and her Foster Mom was 147% positive that it was something totally heartworm related and the situation was a lost cause....
As luck would have it, Biscotti was scheduled to be in Boca anyway for an echocardiogram to check on her heart and so Biscotti and her pancreatitis hunkered down on some fluids, anti nausea meds, and hang out under medical supervision until her regularly scheduled appointment.
The next morning, little Biscotti was able to hold down some water, but still not doing amazing and so, while she was getting the echo, Pam asked Dr. Huges if they could just do some quick imaging of Biscotti's abdomen and that was when everything changed - and not for the better.
The ultrasound revealed a foreign body in Biscotti's intestines (which was causing the pancreatitis) and she needed emergency surgery to get it out - right then. Every minute it was there could do serious damage to her intestines which is a whole other set of problems.
Pam placed a call to LeadER to let them know Biscotti was coming and then called Biscotti's Foster Mom who promptly stood up and walked out of work to get in the car to get Biscotti in Boca and bring her back to FTL.
Dr. Marin is the surgeon on duty and Biscotti was examined, cleared for the procedure (thankfully her heart was looking much better) and they have gone to surgery.
We ask you to keep both Biscotti and Dr. Marin in your thoughts and we ask your support in a donation of any size to help us cover Biscotti's care as not only do your donations help us to make doxie dreams of forever families come true, they also make it possible for our long term fosters to get the same kind of care they need for as long as they are with us.
