We told the story over 100 times before, and we have already told it once this week and yet, here we are, back again, to tell the story of how the shelter reached out to us this morning to take a paralyzed dog, who had been found as a stray.
...Because paralyzed dogs get out all the time in Miami and are found dragging themselves around out on the streets.
She started her day as A2262705 as a paralyzed "stray", blasted out for medical rescue or she would be put down. The shelter had provided her the only medical care they could; pain meds and antibiotics for the significant drag wounds she had from however long she had been dragging herself around before whoever brought her to the shelter and claimed she was a stray.
Just like all the other before her, we were her only chance. We are the only Dachshund Rescue in Florida that takes down dogs from shelters.
We took a deep breath and placed our hold. Transport was organized and A2262705 was on her way to Southeast Veterinary Neurology to have her 2nd chance and was re-christened Beatrix.
Beatrix will be having an MRI to determine if she is a surgical candidate again, we are back on the hook for $4,500 to fund our 5th IVDD surgery (and 2nd this week).
You are who tells us that you believe in our work and the difference we are making together. We have already had one big ask this week and here we are again asking for the same thing all over again. We will keep going as long as you make it possible. We couldn't leave her there to die injured and alone and if everyone gives just a little, we can cover Beatrix's surgery and be ready for whoever is out there and will need us soon.
