Dachshund Rescue South Florida hasn't added a story.
She is so tiny and so cute, but she has an incredibly rare birth defect that at best would make her life uncomfortably painful and difficult and at worst could eventually kill her if not treated. Her family in Tenessee had done everything they could to help her but they needed a solution. That is when they reached out to us to ask if we could help their little girl who has a condition we have seen only one other time in the last 13 years.
For her entire short life, Charli has been straining to poo as her little parts didn't develop right. Her Mom would try and pull her poo out which was painful for her and Charli would cry. Then Charli started to try and pull her own poo out of the tiny opening and that was painful too which would also make her cry. After not being able to get "everything out" her little system would get all backed up and she wouldn't eat as she didn't feel good.
Charli has a condition called "Artesia Ani" which in non medical terms means "her little bottom wasn't formed right and she poo's out her girly parts and because what did form is too small, things get stuck, and it is super painful for her"
Charli's family had taken her to the University of Tennessee who tried a stool softener as the first line of defense, which was good as it worked to soften things up so they would pass easier, but then not so good as if things were passing because they were softer, they would get all mushed up into girly places you don't want poo all mushed up into.
The situation was not sustainable for Charli and so her family reached out to DRSF for help. Would we take her? Of course we would take her.
Charli's family brought her to South Florida where she started her medical journey in the wonderful hands of Dr. Bruce's Animal Hospital to get checked out and then Charli will make her way up to west Palm to see Dr. Unis at Access Veterinary Specialty Center who did the procedure on the last little one we had with this condition.
We will know more about Charli's particular situation after she has a chance to meet with Dr. Unis and we are back again to ask your support to provide hope and provide a chance where there wasn't one before. We know of no other group and team of vets who can make the miracles that you make possible. Will you join us in giving Charli the chance she deserves to live a long, happy, healthy, pain free life?
