Dachshund Rescue South Florida hasn't added a story.
Lois was not the only little one in South Florida who needed our help today. One county north in Broward, a call went out from Broward County Animal Care for help for a little one who had obviously spent some time on the streets that ended nearly tragically when he was hit by a car, but that is only part of the story.....
Many dogs are tragically hit by cars every day, but it is not very often that a dog is hit by a car and is seen by angels on the street and it is even less seldom that a dog is hit by a car and seen by people on the street who go to amazing and heartwarming lenghts to help them.
It doeesn't seem quite right to say that Yoda was "lucky" to be hit, but after he was, the people who saw the accident happen, stayed with him and held him for 2 hours as they tried desperately to borrow someone's cell phone to call for help for him.
Time and time again, they were turned down until they found the one person with a heart soft enough to let them borrow a phone to call Broward County Animal Control for help for Yoda.
Broward County came and picked him up, and while he was in good hands, his future was still very uncertain. Despite wanting to be able to help every dog that comes through their doors, the shelters are very limited in the resources they have avaialble to treat severe injuries, so they did the only thing they could do for Yoda and that was to ask for help.
As you can see from his ears, he is not a full blooded doxie, but when we saw the photos of his pelvis, we knew we could not leave him behind and that our community would have felt the same way.
So while Pam was on her trip down to Miami to rescue Lois, the vote went out and Yoda was welcomed to the DRSF family. So after getting Lois, Pam turned north, swung by Broward County, and picked up Yoda as well who was prompty delivered to the compassionate hands of Dr. Wemen.
Yoda is not able to stand, and he is horribly bruised and abused, but tonight, he is safe, tucked in and tomorrow we will learn more about his condition. He is leaking urine which we are hopful means that due to whatever trauma is going on in his abdomen that it is temporary and that his inability to stand is due to a broken pelvis vs. any larger neurological problem.
We have asked for a lot already today, but once again, we turn to the most amazing, compassionate community there is, our DRSF community to support Yoda and his care.
As always, we welcome donations of any size, and even if you are not able to donate, we welcome you to leave a message of love and support for Yoda as we are big believers in positive energy and the power of love.
From all of us at DRSF, we thank you for believing in us and helping us to make doxie dreams come true <3
