The photos come frequently from Puerto Rico with local, independent rescuers trying with everything they have to find a way for their fosters to get the care they need and have a chance. 

We are pretty numb to things these days, but when we saw Pepe's photo, our hearts broke.  Pepe had suffered, what could only have been a broken leg.  We get it, things happen, injuries can happen to just about any dog.

The problem was that Pepe's "family" not only did not treat the broken leg (which is hard enough to swallow), but they allowed it to heal at a 90 degree angle, so that one of his right legs was literally bent backwards.

How does someone not know their dogs leg is broken and then do nothing while it heals backwards? How do you just sit there - while your dog's leg forms a completely unnatural 90 degree angle the WRONG WAY and do nothing and then surrender that dog when nothing could be done in Puerto Rico to help him. 

Happily Pepe was away from his "family" but needed help.

Could we help him? 

We sure as hell can help him.

And that is what happened.  Pepe's foster got him vaccinated and ready to fly.  The amazing rescuers in Puerto Rico booked a flight and Pepe made his way from PR to MIA and then onto LeadER Animal Specialty Hospital where he will be seen by Surgeron Dr. Marin who will determine if amputation is the right way to go or if there is another treatment.

You came through for Bean and Bear and Milo and we are crossing fingers, paws and eyes in hopes that you think Pepe deserves a chance too.
