Morty's life has not been kind. This sweet senior boy has been failed by multiple families over the course of his life.
This last time, that failure nearly became the ultimate betrayal when Morty was picked up by Animal Services in heartbreaking shape - he was so matted and flea covered, he had to be totally shaved. His nails were so long they were curled under and his eyes were gunked up beyond recognition.
After Morty was shaved and a bit more comfortable, the shelter found a chip, and their hearts soared for a moment that they might be able to reunite this sweet boy with a family who was missing him.
The shelter did indeed reach Morty's former family... who told the shelter they had given him way over 8 years ago and didn't want him.
There was nobody to come for Morty and so this sick, gentle senior boy sat in a cage while a rescue blast went out hoping that someone would love him enough to come for him and save his life.
We saw his photo and we were on our way....
The Pambulance headed for Miami to pull Morty and take him straight to LeadER, so Morty can start his life over again with the care and love that he has likely been denied his entire life.
Morty is under the care of Dr. Johns with the plan being x-rays, blood work, an echocardiogram, and an ultrasound. Morty has been through enough for one day, so they will do what they can for his eyes to make him comfortable and then Morty will get some of the best medicine there is out there....a clean, cozy bed, fresh blanket, hands that give pets and snuggles, some good food, and a chance to take his first sleep free of all the matted fur and fleas and yuck that he has carried with him for who knows how long.
