It has been just a little over a year since we have had to make a shameless plea for funds, but despite some incredible gifts this year helping us cover a huge wave of big ticket/urgent medical intakes at the end of 2025, our War Chest has still taken a severe beating due to a number of “behind the scenes” medical cases (ongoing care for forever fosters, end of life care, etc) that did not make our social media feeds or we would be hitting people up even more so than we have already.
We are hoping to get our head back above water and are humbly reaching out to ask a donation of any size via our “Dogs Who Stay” Petfundr or via any of the links on our website.Â
That is the short story – if you would like to learn more about each of these sweet souls and why we decided they were worth it, read on below….
Gloria & Lupita – A BOGO of Seniors at President Pam’s

Gloria came to us a few months ago as a stray out of Miami. She had uncontrolled diabetes, terrible teeth, was weak in her hind end, and was heart worm positive on top of it. We got Glorida vetted to the best of our ability and were getting ready to introduce her and her hind end went from weak to non-existent. It wasn’t fair to put her through any other procedures, and ultimately, Glorida was helped across the bridge after getting a few good months living it up at President Pam’s after a spay, dental, multiple glucose curves, insulin and supplies, and heartworm treatment.
Speaking of living it up at President Pam’s, Lupita is another forever foster who is a cranky little lady who does not want to be picked up or petted, but loves her some President Pam. After a bout of IVDD last year, Lupita was cruising along until she developed an abscess on her face that needed an emergency, senior/heart problem dental.Â

Slinky- Special Needs Forever Foster
Slinky is a tank of a doxie who came to us in February after two near
death experiences with bladder stones. After a complex surgery,
Slinky went on to start having seizures, which predicated another
round of testing, oh and he also has Cushing’s and diabetes too.Â
Slinky takes 13 pills daily and eats only prescription food to keep
him from getting more stones. He pees like a racehorse multiple times
per day due to the diabetes and only wants to be touched when he wants
to be touched. He is a real charmer and needless to say, Slinky will
be with us for the rest of his life and his medication, prescription
food, pill pockets, and pee pad consumption is an excellent example of
ongoing expenses for “forever fosters” of which we have about 12.Â

Chona
Chona was a forever foster who came to us from Broward. She had a few good months in foster care and prior to passing away a couple months ago, she spent three days at LeadER with bloodwork, meds, IV fluids, x-rays, and an ultrasound to see if there was anything we could do to help her. Â
In other, smaller updates,  Donatello, who came to us from PR is back at Pet Medical Center Boca for the 3rd time on the after effects of a mouth full of bad teeth, Darwin’s tail amputation, Dash’s foot treatment, we could go on for days.
Not every dog that makes their way to our door gets to choose their forever home but to us, these dogs do not deserve to be put down the first moment it looks like their time is over. Even if they don’t get to choose their forever home, rescue will still do what it is supposed to do – give them some “good” time, good food, good pets, a soft bed, and someone to love them and cry for them when they leave for as long as they have. We hope you agree they are worth it and thank you for your support.  💛
