Dachshund Rescue South Florida hasn't added a story.

Some dogs we know we can help, some dogs are a gamble.  When those "gamble dogs" come to us, it is a true test of our morals and commitment.  Kodiak is one of those dogs.

We received a video of Kodiak from a rescue partner in Puerto Rico and it was obvious that Kodiak was down.  How long had he been down?  We had no idea.  Did he have deep pain?  We had no idea.  All we knew was that he was a down doxie and needed help.

The options were not great - he was a down doxie who could be helped with surgery was the best case, $4,000 option and high probability of adoption.  He was a down doxie who could not be helped by surgery confirmed with an MRI- a $2,000 option and a dog with next to zero chance of being adopted and we have likely committed to the care and  for a dog for the rest of his life who would need a long term IVDD foster home (which is like finding a glittery unicorn.....)

We could say no.  We can always say no.  But if we say no once, where does it stop?

And so we rolled the dice and Kodiak was flown to Miami, where the Pambulance met him and got him to Dr. Wong at SEVN who stayed very late to wait for Kodiak.  It was a busy night at SEVN and as the Pambulance waited, more than one dog made his way inside for the kind of care only SEVN can provide.

Dr. Wong and his team have to go in order or emergency and two dogs needed surgery before Kodiak could have his MRI so it was very early the next morning that Dr. Wong made the call to President Pam - Kodiak's entire spinal cord was bright white indicating it was dead.  There was nothing that could be done.

We had rolled the dice and it did not come out the way we wanted.  We lost our gamble, but still had won one thing that is the most important of all.  We kept our word.

And now, we turn to the people who have made it so that we can keep our word and ask for your support in a donation of any size to help cover Kodiak's MRI bill, but we also ask your support in another way.  We ask you to look into your heart and ask if you could be that rare unicorn of person who would open their heart to an IVDD survivor for either fostering or adopting.  If you think you could be that person, we would love to hear from you <3
