Dachshund Rescue South Florida hasn't added a story.
Earlier this week we shared Derby's story and how after 4 blasts from the shelter, we had to step up and take her.
Derby wasn't alone in sitting in the shelter, horribly injured and hoping someone would care about them enough to save them..... three time we saw A2283130 seeking rescue "Very sweet geriatric pet. 4 Injured necrotic paws. Possible autoimmune disease vs. infection vs. other."
There aren't many logical ways a dog can have 4 severely burned paws that are all burned the same way and there are even less logical ways that dog can end up as a "stray" picked up in Miami but that was what A2283130 was facing and we knew he didn't have a lot of time left.
The shelters send the medical records with the blasts so rescues can know as much as possible about what they could be taking on. As each day slowly passed, A2283130's condition was getting worse.
"All 4 feet painful when touched" turned into "all four paws are raw and infected vs. necrotic tissue" turned into "Pet is in urgent need of rescue to ensure ongoing treatment."
The shelter was doing what they could giving him pain meds, abx, and performing the wound care his paws needed to the best of their ability.
The only thing that made our heart hurt more than knowing what condition he was in and how much it had to hurt was thinking about what could have happened to him.
We couldn't take it any more. We placed our hold.
A2283130, the 19lbs Jack Russel Terrier Mix with 4 burned paws was now a Dachshund and on his way to Dr. Bruce's Animal Hospital where he would get the care he needed to hopefully save his paws.
Dr. Bruce and his team got right to work unwrapping the newly christened Hardy's paws and were equally floored by how horrible all 4 of Hardy's Paws were and how sweet he was in spite of it.
Hardy had all four of his paws debrided, re-wrapped, he was cleaned up, and tucked into a clean bed of his very own and now we wait to see what happens with his paws and how they heal. Bloodwork and other tests will help us understand if it is an autoimmune disease (which is super curious for equal burns on all four paws and nowhere else but you never can tell...) or if his bloodwork rules that out in which case, we don't even want to imagine how he could have gotten like this.
Either way, Hardy is safe with us and asks your support to cover his care so that we can continue to be there to be the safety net for those who have waited way too long for help......
