My name is Jacqueline (“Jay”) and this campaign is for my dog, Mabel, a 5 year-old Cardigan Welsh Corgi and my support dog. She’s my family, my anchor, the little heartbeat that keeps my world from collapsing in on itself.

Recently I found a lump on Mabel’s belly and took her to Urban Animal in Seattle. The vet diagnosed a bilobed mammary tumor on one of her mammary glands. They explained that in dogs like Mabel, mammary tumors have about a 50% chance of being malignant. If the tumor is cancerous and not removed, it can spread to her lymph nodes and lungs and would eventually be fatal. We won’t know whether it’s benign or malignant until it’s surgically removed and sent to the lab.

Because of this, Urban Animal has recommended:

• Pre-operative bloodwork, clotting profile, and chest X-rays
• Surgery as soon as possible to remove the tumor
• Histopathology of the mass once removed

Urban Animal has provided estimates of about $862 for the pre-op diagnostics and $2,214–$2,767 for surgery, anesthesia, spay, and histopathology. Altogether, we are looking at roughly $3,100–$3,600. These are estimates only, and the final cost may be higher depending on how long the surgery takes, how much anesthesia and monitoring she needs, and any additional medications or care required. Because of this, and to help cover platform fees and a few nights of stair-free lodging for her immediately after surgery, the fundraiser goal is a bit higher than the clinic estimate. Every dollar from this fundraiser will go directly toward her surgery, related medical costs, and those immediate recovery needs; if anything is left over it will be used for her post-op medications and recheck visits.

In the weeks since getting these estimates, I’ve applied to multiple veterinary financial aid programs and charities without success so far. Rather than wait longer and risk the tumor progressing, I created this fundraiser to try to get Mabel scheduled for surgery as soon as possible.

I’m in an incredibly hard financial situation and I have no savings to cover a surgery of this size, especially on the timeline her vet recommends.
