Hello dear supporters,
Thank you for taking the time to look at our page. I'm sure you're wondering; who and why does Penny need eye removal surgery?
P enny is a 5-year-old, long hair, 7 lbs Chihuahua who was born in March of 2019. Penny was a healthy little puppy full of typical puppy energy. Unfortunately, due to an overly ambition play attempt with a family cat Penny got struck in the left eye. Couple days followed and it became very clear that she would need some medical intervention.
When vets we were given antibiotics in the form of eye drops. Seems simple enough right? We thought so too But Little Miss Penny, on the other hand was convinced we were trying to murder her with poison. So just like a little kitty she would squirm out of our hands and fight us tooth and nail making it impossible to administer the medicine correctly. So we tried again with the antibiotics but like before it did not succeed and then We had a surgery as a final attempt to salvage the eye. When the first round of antibiotics was given by the veterinary office, five vet technicians had to hold her down in order to effectively administer the eye drops. As you may have guessed it did not work because Penny would not have it.
Then on our last visit we were told that the eye would have to be removed completely. That alone without the costs of any of the recovery fees would be $3,000. Just so conveniently a worldwide pandemic soon followed. The little money we did have became even smaller and affording such an expensive surgery became impossible. Even now we are still trying to recover from the devastation.
Poor little Miss Penny has only been getting worse, without any treatment the eye remained infected. Now the other eye is going as well. Penny no longer feels safe in her environment due to her limited visual ability and is often glued to one of our sides. She's also in constant pain and is quite reactive due to it. With a new family member just being introduced this year, It's very clear that something needs to be done and surrendering isn't an option because the stress of it would likely kill her.
This fund aims to not only cover the costs of the surgery but also any additional fees for equipment and medication to help better her quality of life.
You can either support this cause by donating on the site or by ordering an item off of our linked socials which the majority will be handcrafted by us, Penny's owners. If you cannot afford to order online, we will also be having in-person shows this following summer selling the same items we do on those online stores. You can figure out where these shows will be happening by following our socials linked to this page.
For all of our supporters, we will be sure to include updates of Penny's surgery, her recovery, and an one-year post-op update so that donators can verify that their support has made a difference. These updates will be in photo and video forms of media.
