Dear Friends,

Spring is here and boy could we use some help! After a long, hard winter it's time to tackle some very important jobs (before winter starts all over again). On top of that expense, the animals all need their annual vaccinations, deworming, shearing (for sheep) and farrier care.

There are 3 big priority projects that must get done (if we are able to raise enough funds to do them.) The first one is to fence off the big field so all our hooved friends can get out to run and play and enjoy munching on all that good grass (which also saves us from buying so much hay. We spend $2,490 every 6 weeks for 36 big round bales used to feed all the animals - not including the rabbits who like timothy hay, so that is a different purchase all together. Last year, we were able to clear over 6-acres of land for horse paddocks. It was a big job, but we got it done. All that remains now is the 10-acre field. Luckily, there are no trees to take down. It is only a matter of adding posts and fencing (still a big job and still an expense).

The second and third big tasks are to resume work on the big barn and ell so we can move the bunnies over to their new wing in the barn which will be cool in the hot days of summer and warm in the winter. This will entail putting new footings under the ell and leveling it off; laying new floor stringers inside the big barn (we were able to put new footings under the barn last year, a huge undertaking - so hurray for that); and then putdown new hemlock floorboards (hemlock is a very strong wood and lasts a long, long time, perfect for barns.) The new bunny wing will be its own insulated room inside the barn (more like a 1/3rd of the barn space) so that needs a wall and insulation and interior boards as well as bun-sized stalls. Rabbits cannot handle heat especially well, so this job really needs to be completed before July 1st when all the hot, hot weather usually arrives. If we can at least get the bunny wing done it will be a big relief knowing they are going to be so much cooler and happier.

That all being said, we need to raise funds and fast! Please know that all donations are incredibly appreciated from $5, $10, $50, $100 as they add up to make a big impact for the animals. No amount is too small and every amount is deeply, deeply appreciated. Thank you! We are working hard as usual and giving this place and these animals everything we've got!
