I rescued a frail stray orange kitten named Tangerine with multiple life-threatening illnesses. She has fluid in her chest and abdomen, a suspected diaphragmatic hernia, widespread mange all over her body, and broken teeth. She can only breathe with her belly and barely eats wet food.
When I first brought her to the vet, she was severely underweight, dehydrated and covered in skin lesions. Her body was too fragile to handle anesthesia or surgery right away. She was placed in a private oxygen kennel with separate ventilation to avoid cross-contamination, receiving IV fluids, nutritional support and parasite treatments to stabilize her condition.
After days of round-the-clock hospital care, her blood and clotting test results have gotten much better. Her vet now says she is stable enough to undergo emergency exploratory laparotomy surgery to fix the hernia and drain the dangerous fluid buildup.
Tangerine is unbelievably tough and calm through all shots and blood draws.
