Wild at Life e.V. hasn't added a story.
Wild at Life
e.V.is an international conservation & rescue NGO acting in
the field of antipoaching, illegal wildlife trade, canned hunting,
war zone / natural disaster rescue & animal welfare by providing
them with safe habitat, promoting public awareness &
community-led conservation, supporting wildlife conservation efforts
& advocating for policies that protect & preserve natural habitat.
Hence,Wild at Life e.V. is a key participant in international efforts for wildlife conservation by creating jobs for local communities through direct employment & the provision of goods & services.
The NGO has been contacted by Dr. Olabode Olawuyi, who was in charge of the zoo at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) 2 years ago, requesting help & support for the 19 starving wild animals (lions, hyena, ostriches, crocodiles, pig, snakes, birds, etc.) abandoned on the premises. The NGO offered to translocate the subject animals to its species-specific sanctuaries across Africa, but the Nigerian Government re-instated its rejection, thus emergency care & continuous assistance have been deployed onsite. Lots of Nigeran zoos are left unattended, unfunded, without food, medicine, caretaker & veterinarian.
Â
The NGO is shocked & saddened by the unfortunate incident that Dr. Olabode Olawuyi who was attacked to death last Monday as he was feeding the lions.
While certain details remain unclear, initial reports shows that the female assistant left the male lion "Ton's double-fenced feeding area door "§pen" after feeding him, enabling him to escape & attack the assistant caregiver. Unfortunately, Dr. Olawuyi had to sacrifice his life to save his assistant. Sadly, Ton has since been put down.
Dr. Olawuyi, a veterinary technologist, had been taking care of the lions since they were born on campus about nine years ago. Wild at Life e.V. is in mourning & offering condolences to the family while paying tribute to Dr. Olawuyi as a good & humble man.
"The latest tragedy shows once again that safety measures are very important for conservation and rescue of wild animals. It is shocking to see such an unfortunate tragedy, a good & humble man losing his life. However, this incident wouldn't in any way affect our NGO as conserving &, rescuing wild animals. Fundraisers will help to improve safety measures & keep also remaining lions & other wild animals being conserved" said Asli Han Gedik, Wild at Life e.V. Founder & Chairman.
Â
Wild at Life e.V. reiterates its warning that collective failure to act will continue to lead to tragic & fatal consequences. It is imperative to take action against criminals, smugglers & traffickers who prey on the most vulnerable. Wild at Life e.V. & partners continue to put fundraisers to actively engage wild animals who need help, raising awareness about the risks of victims to criminals responsible for their deadly survival challenge.
The lioness "Mirella" & the remaining 17 residents have now been left alone more than ever.
Your urgent support is vital as their days are numbered. So would have wished Dr. Olawuyi as he dedicated his whole life to the wellbeing of these abandoned animals.
Very truly yours,
Wild at Life e.V.
