Holly's Hope hasn't added a story.
WHO IS LUNA:
As many of you know, if you follow my Face Book pages, Holly's Hope received a call for help from a young girl - who was going into a shelter (for teens and young people) and was desperately looking for a home for her dog, Luna. She had called a number of animal shelters and rescues - searching for a foster situation, being honest about her circumstance, running out of hope - and then she called me - at Holly's Hope.
(Stay with me on this journey - I am going to ask you to donate funds towards Luna getting spayed and up to date on her exams and shots if required)
Here is the Post - in case you missed it:
i just had a heartbreaking conversation with an 18 year old who is going into a shelter tomorrow. She has a miniature poodle (in her words, the only thing she has from her parents, and who means the world to her). She is not allowed to bring her dog to the shelter and she feels that it is unfair to her dog, to choose living on the streets in order tfor them to stay together. Her placement in a regular rent controlled home may take up to a year - maybe 2 (as she said "i'm not going to lie about that") - she needs someone to take care of her poodle (my best friend) - and allow her to keep in touch occasionally and have her back when she has a real place to live in - a place that allows her dog. she is devastated and trying everything. she has no family and no friends willing to take her dog in. If anyone can help, i'll call her back. She doesn't want to give her dog away or to TAS or THS, because she doesn't want her dog given away forever. What say my animal rescuers and friends? I have her number- i can call her back
WHAT DID YOU DO NEXT : Well, Social Media, you were quick to reply - with rescues for animals, shelters for people, and personal offers to take care of Luna.
I was flooded with concern from
people who cared - for Luna and for her teenaged "mom" (who
i will call D) - who was trying, even in her desperate situation to
put her dog first. I got a quick quick response from my friend,
Rebecca - it said simply: "Me.
I can help..."
I called D back right away (it was about 9:30 pm) and i said "i have a person who will help you. We can come on the weekend."
And so we did. 3 of us - with a promise to not leave without Luna and to find her care "no matter what" -
We met in a park. D & Luna were waiting for us. we all talked and Rebecca's dogs Skippy and Piper checked out Luna. Miraculously, Piper (a little lady who doesn't usually take to other females) seemed to be interested and not at all put off by this 3rd poodle gal. D was overwhelmed with gratitude. She is an amazing young person, who has a plan for her life, and she is working hard to make sure she succeeds. She has 2 jobs and a new placement in a group home type of set up with youth (16-22 yrs). She has planned her budget and the province will help her with geared to income housing when she is able to make the move. (1-2 years expected due to our social welfare and housing issues in Ontario).
Luna has settled in with Rebecca, Skippy and Piper. Rebecca had
reported that she is doing well - she loves to play, is very smart,
and she has been very very busy stealing all of the toys and putting
them in her bed (which she brought with her). She tears up the
stuffies, and moves all the toys from box to basket to bed -
constantly re-arranging her world. She builds caves under pillows and
sleeps in them.
WHAT IS NEXT: Rebecca has been such an amazing hero in this situation. Expending the family of poodles to include Luna the foster pup. Caring for her in every way.
Luna is now registered, has a new little hair clip, and is getting ready for a check up and to be spayed. I asked D if it would be okay if i had her spayed and she said yes and said she would pay me back one day. We don't need that. We need to pitch in like the caring people we are and take care of Luna's needs communally. THAT'S HOW YOU CAN HELP!!!
LET'S BUILD A COMMUNITY OF FRIENDS, AND PUT SOME FUNDS INTO LUNA'S BACK ACCOUNT.
PLEASE BE A PART OF
THIS COMMUNITY FOR LUNA (and for D) - Rebecca has done the heavy
lifting here, and we are going to be the additional support: You can
donate here - or send an e-transfer to: hollyshopeforanimalsinneed@gmail.com
These are words from D - who says the shelter she got placement in feels safe: "I don't know how to explain how grateful i am. I am shocked about the amount of help you guys have been able to give me. I can't believe you are willing to help with the expenses of Luna. I promise one day when i am on my feet, i will pay it forward. I am so grateful. I cannot express how thankful i am again.
