Our primary objective is to rescue animals exposed primarily to human cruelty, providing them with necessary medical care and a safe home.
Currently, we are housing 12 former workhorses, 1 sheep, 2 cows, and 9 dogs in our permanent shelter. All of them have a history full of awful things. The 24 animals currently residing permanently in our shelter now have a safe and predictable existence where they are well cared for, monitored by experts, and receive the attention and protection they need. These are vulnerable animals who would not survive outside of our shelter for various reasons. For example, one horse is partially blind and cannot see anything from the left side; we have two horses with ataxia that require both special training and supplements. Others are traumatized and may react aggressively toward people. One horse has a metal structure in its hind leg and requires special stabling and movement. The other animals also have specific needs that make them reliant on our care.
Since we do not have crisis shelter capacity, we are forced to treat severely injured street cows and bulls on the streets. Sometimes, we are unable to find them. The demand for assistance, particularly for injured cows and bulls, is high. To provide care for these animals in need, we need 4 separate emergency stables with a separated outdoor space where these animals can temporarily stay safely and receive the necessary treatment.
What is the importance of this request for animals?
The importance of the emergency shelter is huge, as it allows us to provide intake and discharge, helping many more animals. On average, an emergency shelter stay will last 4 weeks. We have chosen a maximum capacity of 4 spaces, as this is manageable in terms of manpower. We collaborate with other initiatives, with which we have built a strong network. Since we already partially have the facilities and space suitable for larger animals, we plan to address as many of these emergency cases as possible. We anticipate being able to assist 30 to 40 additional animals per year.
What are we requesting support for and why?
We are requesting your support for the construction of the necessary facilities for an (emergency) shelter for animals in India
Our request seeks support for the realization of the basic facilities for the entire project, as well as for the construction of the 4 new emergency stalls designated for injured large street animals that need temporary shelter, medical care, and rehabilitation.
Specifically, we are requesting support for the following necessary facilities:
- Own water source, tanks, pumps, tank stands, distribution throughout the site
- 4 Emergency Stalls
- Treatment room/quarantine area
- Building for dry food/ kitchen/ animal supplies
- Simple accommodation for overnight staff
- Fencing for pastures
- Electricity supply
- Washing/care station (for farrier/dentist)
- Sanitary facilities for volunteers/specialists/visitors
- Drainage system for the entire site (330 meters)
Your support is indispensable. In the Netherlands, we have done everything possible to raise the necessary funds, but our resources are now exhausted. We have managed to gather over €22,000,00 which we immediately invested in the construction of the large barns with paddocks, the animal shelters, fencing, hay storages and so on. Additionally, the rent for the next 5 years has been paid, ensuring the future. Now, we need to continue with the construction of the mentioned facilities; only then can we truly help many animals!
