Bandit's K9Care Inc. hasn't added a story.
Daisy Mae (Daisy for short) is a very sweet 4 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi who lives with her family in Bellingham Washington. Daisy, her sister Gracie and two other puppies were born in January 2019 to Farah, a petite Corgi who is a half sister to Bentley, the Corgi actor from the Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency television series. Their father is a Corgi named Oliver, a handsome boy living in British Columbia where Farah and Bentley also live. Farah and Oliver have worked together in television, and Oliver was healthy and fully tested.
When Farah gave birth it was in the home which would become Daisy and Gracie’s permanent home. Shelly was a good friend of Farah’s owner, and she had experience assisting with the whelping and raising of puppies. It was a good decision as it was a rough birth, with a C-section necessary to remove one of the puppies. Because of the difficult birth, Farah was spayed at the same time.
Daisy and her sister Gracie had a rough first few weeks. Shelly was with them around the clock, holding them and helping to hand feed them. After they pulled through it was decided that the two girls would stay with Shelly and her family.
Fast forward to 3 years later. The girls went in for their annual check ups and blood work was included which revealed that both dogs had elevated kidney values, indicating kidney disease. The vet suspected that it was a congenital condition and prescribed a kidney support diet and added Phos-Bind, which helps to reduce serum levels of phosphorus and manage chronic renal disease.
Sadly Gracie passed away this past spring from kidney failure, which was extremely hard on everyone. It was also learned recently that another Corgi from the litter was diagnosed with kidney disease.
Daisy’s owners want to do everything they can to keep her healthy and happy for as long as possible, especially after losing Gracie. However they were already dealing with financial challenges from raising an adopted (human) daughter with serious medical issues along with the unexpected veterinary expenses for Gracie and Daisy.
Farah and Bentley’s owner reached out to our organization to ask about partnering with him to raise funds to obtain the specialized care Daisy will need ongoing. At the same time Daisy’s owner applied for assistance. This fundraiser has been set up to raise some initial funds to cover the cost of consulting with a veterinary specialist including the necessary tests and medications. Then, to help with ongoing expenses, an auction is being planned for a future date that will include many special items from Daisy’s famous actor uncle Bentley and his actor friends!
