Gus is our spunky and loving Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Gus is loved by our entire family, including his two young human brothers. He brings joy to our family every day.

Last year Gus was diagnosed with a perineal hernia on one side as well as a non-cancerous mass that developed next to the hernia. A perineal hernia occurs when there is a weakening or traumatic tear in the muscles of the pelvis, resulting in the bladder, intestines, or fat pushing through the muscle to an abnormal position just under the skin. We learned that they can develop in dogs that are no neutered. Had we been aware of this and other health problems he could have we would have neutered him when he was much younger. 

In August of 2022 Gus had surgery to repair the hernia as well as to neuter him. It cost us over $3,800 for the surgery, plus additional costs to diagnose his condition. We were hoping he would recover and have no further problems, but unfortunately a hernia has developed on the other side that needs to be surgically repaired before he is unable to urinate and defecate. Without surgery the hernia can create a blockage and become life threatening.

Our family just took in my mother after my father passed away. And with the amount we expended on Gus last year as well as this year to date. we are barely afloat. I hate to ask for help but I will do whatever I can to help my special boy. He is isn't “just a dog”. He is THE DOG for me and our family. We all have that one dog that we compare the others too. They are the once in a lifetime dog. Gus literally has gotten our family through tough times,  and even joyous ones. He has enough personality and character that losing him would be like losing a best friend. Thank you so much for helping us.
