Our rescue friends in Brazil have an appalling case of neglect. This is not a stray dog in Brazil but a dog who has an owner who CLAIMS to love her!
This is Puma, she is a pure breed Basset Hound.
She weighs only SIXTEEN POUNDS.
This is truly heartbreaking.
Our Rescue friends managed to finally get Puma's owners to relinquish her to them.
She is right now at their vet's on IV and they are running tests.
We know she is malnourished, dehydrated, and has tested positive for tick disease.
She is so weak she cannot stand up at all. This poor girl has been neglected for a VERY long time.
We believe she hasn't had food or water for many days.
Our Rescue friends right now have 73 other dogs in their care, which means they are bursting at the seams BUT it was impossible not to take in Puma. She can die at any time.
Her vet needs her to get a little stronger to run more tests, there were other dogs on the property with Puma (they are in decent shape). We are worried however she may have distemper. They do have a foster home lined up but the new foster mama has a dog of her own and they need to make sure Puma doesn't have anything contagious.
This poor, poor girl. What a life she's endured, Puma should be at least 50 lbs! She is literally skin and bone and will of course be in horrible pain.
Please help us heal her, time is of the essence. Our Rescue friend's vets are amazing but to get into debt with vets as a rescue means they cannot rescue more.
