Emily Austin hasn't added a story.
Since the beginning of August Gimli has started having collapsing episodes where he’s losing control of his legs. This has caused his front right leg and paw to become unstable, and to where his front right paw and back right paw are not always able to fully extend but tuck back at his knuckles.
At first we thought it was because of his heart murmur and
enlarged heart, which he’s already been taking medicine for, causing
him to not get enough oxygen to his brain and pass out. Myself and
Camille have been caring for him while he’s been ordered to crate
rest, making sure he’s not running, jumping, engaging in play, and
doing anything that would make him excitable. This past Sunday he
had 2 of these episodes, each while he was going potty.
Gimlis vet, Dr, Redden, strongly believes he is experiencing cervical intervertebral disc disease and has discs in his spine, specifically his neck, that are compressed and slowly taking his ability to use his right front and back legs. The first step is to get an MRI done to determine if he does have compressed discs. The second step is surgery if he does.
The initial MRI is $2200-$2400 and the small animal hospital doing it doesn’t take payment plans. CareCredit is the obvious next step these days, but I don’t qualify due to having a 2 year old bankruptcy on my credit report. The MRI alone is very expensive, and if he is to have surgery that is going to feel even more insurmountable in cost.
I’m a single income household and any penny you donate will go a long ways to getting Gimli timely care. He has so much life left in him, and if you can help better the function and future of his legs I ask you to please do so. You can help be the difference in Gimli’s life. All he wants to do is run around and bark wildly at nothing more than a smell in the air. I’d do anything to make that happen again.
Genuinely no amount is too small to help.
I have the amount set to just the MRI amount, and will update pending the outcome.
