KetoPet Sanctuary is a program of Epigenix Foundation. At our 53 acre sanctuary outside of Austin Texas KetoPet is providing human-grade cancer therapies and diagnostics for Shelter Dogs with naturally occurring cancers.

KetoPet isn’t your typical canine rescue facility. We rescue dogs with incurable, cancers from shelters and rescue groups - dogs whose cancer would typically be a death sentence for them. We are not providing hospice-like treatment or palliative care for these animals. No, we refuse to write these dogs off to thier fate. At KetoPet we are fighting back, often extending quality of life by providing groundbreaking cancer treatment – the very same treatment and approach given to humans. And here’s the craziest part, we are winning!

How Are You Changing Lives? - The core of our mission is to feed our dogs a ketogenic diet - a diet that consists of high fat, low protein and low carbohydrate.

Why A Ketogenic Diet? - In 1924 Nobel Laureate Dr. Otto Warburg observed that a cancer cell's metabolism is different than healthy cells. Unlike healthy cells, cancer cells rely mainly on glucose for their energy needs.

What Does It All Mean? - Ketogenic diets put our dogs in a state that limits cancer cells from getting access to gluscose - effectively starving the cancer.

How Do You Know Ketogenic Diets Work? - We are the only organization in the world oustide of academia that uses Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) diagnostics for dogs. PET/CT is typically used in human medicine. The technology allows us to understand the efficacy of our therapies. The results we are producing are ouststanding!

How Many Dogs Have You Helped? - Since our sanctuary opened 20 months ago we have helped 55 dogs. These dogs were helped through a generous donation from Quest Nutrition, the protein bar guys! Here is a photo of Cali:

The fact that Cali is alive today is miraculous. Cali’s cancer was discovered when she was pregnant. What should have been a litter of 6 puppies turned out to be one puppy and a giant hemangiosarcoma tumor. Her veterinarians gave her six weeks to live. When we heard about Cali’s case, we rushed her to KetoPet. On day one she had 6 tumors sites. By day 60, she had 3. By day 120, she had none — She was (and is) cancer free. In only four months her cancer was completely reversed. Nineteen months on, a healthy Cali is settling into to her new furever home! The nutritional approach taken with Cali may be the most important tool we have in the treatment of cancer.

Cali has become a vanguard for people with terminally ill dogs, and for human cancer patients as well. While visiting the KetoPet sanctuary, Cali met Kevan, who works there and is currently battling lymphoma. Kevan said, “Spending time with Cali has been the best therapy I have experienced.” Cali is a hero to all those who believe that we can and will win the fight against cancer.
