Our precious little baby boy Maine Coon tabby, Myles is only 10 years old when he suddenly started vomiting blood. At first the vet thought it was just gastritis, but it after a week of medication it continued to happen...
After doing an ultrasound and some blood tests, the vet and even oncologist have confirmed that he has lymphoma cancer & possibly a carcinoma tumor in his stomach.
We were heartbroken and devasted to hear this sad news. It all happened so suddenly. He was a healthy boy, so youtfhul, playful and affectionate. He always seemed to be so much younger than his age and had plenty of energy. His blood test results were coming in normal, and all his other organs were confirmed to be healthy. How could this happen so fast, we thought? We moved as fast as we could to book him to see specialists to get the fastest possible.
Fortunately, the vet oncologist confirmed that since the tumors are localized in the stomach, he is eligble for surgery. They said it would be possible to remove a part of his stomach that has the cancer. If the surgery is successful and we follow up with chemo therapy treatments, there are is a decent chance we could help him go into remission and extended his life even possibly for many more years to come. We were very lucky to be able to book the upcoming surgery 3 days from now (February 17th, 2026).
Unfortunately, we do not have any pet insurance and the procedures are very costly. So far, we have spent $3000 CAD ($2200 USD) just for the initial diagnostics and treatments. This has already put a big financial strain on us.
The upcoming is surgery is estimated to cost ~$5000 CAD ($3670 USD) and the four rounds of chemo therapy is estimated to cost ~$11,500 CAD ($8,500 USD). In total, the surgery, meds, and chemo are estimated to cost around $20,000 CAD ($14,700 USD).
It has already put a big financial strain on our family, but we want to do anything we can to try and help him as much as possible. We cannot let him go and simply fade away.. Our little Myles means the world to us and is a member of our family. He is the sweetest angel and like a son to us.
