Governor came to Blue Earth Nicollet County Humane Society (BENCHS) as a stray, very sick, emaciated, and clearly in pain. This beautiful boy did not arrive looking for comfort alone, he arrived needing urgent medical care. When he first came through our doors we began treating a severe eye injury, hoping antibiotics and supportive care would be enough. Despite our efforts, it has become clear that his eye cannot be saved and he will need surgery to remove it on February 26th so he can finally be free from the constant discomfort he has been living with.

Governor was also dangerously thin when he arrived. In just the two and a half weeks he has been at our shelter, he has already gained over a pound, which is truly incredible progress. With proper nutrition, warmth, and care, his body is finally beginning to recover from whatever he endured while surviving outside.

During his examination we discovered that his submandibular lymph nodes are prominent, with the left side slightly larger than the right, which we suspect is secondary to his ruptured globe. He is currently on oral antibiotics and doing well. In addition to his eye injury, Governor also has complicated crown fractures on teeth number 104 and 204, which will need to be addressed during his procedure.

When BENCHS takes in injured stray cats like Governor, we never hesitate to say yes. However, complex medical cases are incredibly difficult for us to absorb financially. His surgery and dental care are expected to cost at least 1,000 dollars, and we are still waiting on the complete estimate. We are asking our BENCHS family if they would consider helping sponsor the care he needs. Every dollar donated will go directly toward his surgery and medical treatment.

Governor did not choose to be abandoned or injured, but together we can choose to help him heal. We will continue to provide updates as we receive his surgical estimate and move closer to February 26th.
