Patrick Monaghan hasn't added a story.
My name is Patrick Monaghan and I am asking for financial help for our dog Rosie that is currently hospitalized at Eclipse Specialty & Emergency Pet Care in Whippany, NJ.
My long-term girlfriend and I rescued Rosie in 2016 when she was about 5 years old (per the ASPCA). She quickly grew into our family including her adopted 'sister', Maggie. (Maggie was rescued from another dog rescue about a month after Rosie.) Rosie loves cuddling with us on the couch and is definitely a spoiled fur baby.
---
Rosie became sick on Sunday with throwing up, not eating and the inability to urinate. She has a history of UTIs, but has never thrown up due to one. We became very concerned about her health, so we took her to Newton Veterinary Hospital. After a few hours, she was diagnosed with bladder stones (at least 12 of them). Due to her age, we decided to go to the only vet in the area that has ultrasonic dissolution available - Red Bank Animal Hospital (it breaks up the stones into tiny pieces so they can pass through the urethra with little to no pain to the dog.) Ultrasonic dissolution is considered non-evasive and considerably safer compared to the typical surgery.
Once Red Bank confirmed the diagnosis, they said that surgery was the best option due to the 12 stones that were found in her bladder. To our dismay, the costs for surgery was about do uble our quotes locally, including at the Newton Veterinary Hospital. We had Red Bank Animal Hospital stabilize her and release her to us (at about 2am). Once home, we tried to get her in for an emergency appointment/surgery with Newton Veterinary Hospital and her primary vet, but none had a surgeon available for at least 24 hours (I called the day before, they told me that they should be able to get her in ASAP). With more than 12 hours without treatment and knowing that the surgery was urgent, we were forced to go to Eclipse Pet Hospital as they said that they had a surgeon available same day, if needed. They were also only about an hour away compared to 2+ hours for Red Bank.
At Eclipse, they told us that they couldn't do the surgery right away due to Rosie's kidneys not functioning correctly. Her labs showed her bun and creatinine were extremely high, which would make surgery dangerous for her. They admitted her to the hospital and gave her more antibiotics and fluids. Her kidneys have been improving, but it is happening very slowly. She has been in intensive care for 3 days, but we expect her to have her surgery tomorrow, April 4th. They are trying to get her kidneys as close to normal as possible before surgery (her kidneys have to be able to filter out the anesthesia).
So far we have spent about $7,000 on her care for this issue, with another $9,000+ quoted just for the surgery. Each night costs about $2,000. We are asking for just enough to cover her medical bills for the bladder surgery otherwise known as a Cystotomy.
We can provide proof of the charges so far and the surgery quote if requested. Once the surgery is complete, we expect her to make a full recovery. We think she still has a lot of life left in her as a small bread.
We appreciate any help you can give to us to make her healthy again.
Thanks!
