So! On top of the astronomical increase in gasoline, heating oil, electric (ours has more than doubled) hay, and grain - and the continued craziness caused by the pandemic - not only is our sanctuary seeing a predictable decline in donations and financial support – but our faithful 2004 farm truck, “The Liberator" (aptly named for being an instrumental part of our rescue work), has broken-down entirely. For the little engine that just wouldn’t quit, I’m afraid to say, it finally has. And I can hardly lay blame. Sometimes, I think our own “little engines” aren’t far behind, as weary as both Mathew and I get, trying so hard to keep all the pieces of this extremely hard and stressful work from falling apart. This truck means everything to the sanctuary! I mean EVERYTHING. On top of that, it is our only vehicle. Mathew and I do our best to live as frugally as possible to enable us to do this labor of love – and it is only us here, full time. There are no holidays; no nights out; no days off; no sleeping-in; no shopping; no new clothes; no hair-dressers. We don’t have a dryer, dishwasher, living room furniture and there are giant holes in the floor of the old farmhouse that is in desperate need of restoration. Simplifying and sacrificing is all well and good, but we cannot do without reliable transport here, at the sanctuary. Not only does the farm truck haul hay and straw and shavings, but food and grain and essential supplies for the animals. On top of that – The Liberator is used to as transport for rescue animals. All of the bunnies we recently took in from a horrible neglect case were transported by the farm truck. Jimmy and Perry, as little calves (see their pics below; yes, they've grown lots since then,) were transported in the farm truck, as well as, pretty much every animal here.

The total cost to fix the farm truck is $2,200.

We know times are tough, but we would so greatly appreciate your help getting the old farm truck back to work saving lives! Please donate what you can ($5, $10, $50, $500.) It all adds up, and hopefully, The Liberator will be up and running again very soon.
