Boxer Rescue of VT hasn't added a story.
Dear Boxer Loving Advocates, I volunteer with Boxer Rescue of VT, who’s primary focus is saving Boxers who are deemed “rescue only” meaning not adoptable from shelter due to behavior or medical needs and Boxers who are at risk of euthanasia in overcrowded shelters...
I am asking for your most Generous Donation Today... Boxer Rescue needs your financial help to cover the rescue & veterinary costs of a very special Boxer who fell apart at the shelter... He shook, growled and was a wreck with severe stress & anxiety, as result He was labeled “rescue only”... This boy is 6 yrs old & has lived through Hell. 6 yrs of abusive beatings, loud yelling, and remote control shock collar... he was a wreck when he arrived here in Vermont. Emotionally for sure and we soon found out physically too. He came very close to dying from intestinal blockages. it took about a month and a half or so and a lot of trips back-and-forth to the veterinary Hospital to clear the blockage is from his intestines. (We ❤️ our Vet) . It seemed like we were finally on the road to recovery when I, his foster mom, began to notice him taking biscuits in a very odd fashion and spent lots of time pushing them around on the floor ... then meal time got very messy too and He made a lot of weird noises and strange physical gestures I have never seen a dog make before. what was most concerning was that I observed something wrong with his mouth, and when i tried to look inside, it was very difficult to pry his mouth open, So I prayed for him & decided I would take him to the vet the next day. Well in the morning he seemed to be hurting more, and had major trouble with eating his meal, I tried to look in his mouth and this time it was locked shot, I don’t mean he was resisting, I mean locked shut.
I got him in right away to see Veterinarian for help...
Dear God, Then We find out this poor dog’s mouth/jaw is locked shut! Vet points out to us he has several large indentations in his head, from a rare and cruel disease called “ Masticatory myositis”, It is an immune system DISEASE that had slowly been destroying healthy muscles in his jaw and head!
(I sat in vet parking lot for a long time in tears after learning this, I could not drive home all that distance so upset... )
Totally heart-wrenching... to learn how large amounts of muscle mass have been destroyed by this rare and painful disease that caused his immune system to suddenly attack healthy muscle in his skull and jaw...
We are grateful at least now He’s diagnosed & vet has started treating him before this disease spread to his hips & hindquarters.
Because his jaw is clenched together He cannot eat solid food So this dear boy Is LETTING ME GIVE him LIQUID FOOD/puree put in a turkey baster then placed into his cheek pocket so he can carefully swallow.
Had him on subcutaneous fluids for about a week because he couldn’t drink and he was getting dehydrated...
Thank God for Recent IMPROVEMENT, he is now able to drink water on his own... He can’t open his mouth enough to get his tongue out, but he’s figured out a way to stick his snout in bowl and somehow get water into his mouth! So I’m no longer doing the subcutaneous fluids!!!
Anyway I love him to pieces & HE HAS COME SO FAR, behaviorally and emotionally, beat blocked intestines & now this!!
Note! As per Vet visit This week, Prognosis is good, our Veterinarian diagnosed it in time; P L E A S E, donate to enable us to pay for his treatments...
LET’S GET HIM WELL... please donate whatever you can..

Captain came into Boxer Rescue after being dumped after a lifetime of abuse; starved, and God knows what; the surrendering owner wanted him PTS because he did not “want” him anymore... The dog was a total mess, cowered down, and shaking, if anyone approached him he growled, snarled; Captain was afraid of everyone, it was obvious no one had ever shown him kindness! Shelter assessment didn’t go well, muzzle was needed, he didn’t want to be touched so he was labeled “not adoptable to public”. Thankfully we were contacted by shelter director who had hoped we were willing to rescue and work with him on his fears and issues, of course we agreed to take him. He had a difficult time at the vet, again needed muzzling, and he was a wreck the entire ride north… What we didn’t know was that he was very sick; after arrival we noticed him throwing up yellow foam and not able to hold down any food, he was drinking up a starm so we took him to emergency vet hospital, X-rays and tests were done he had lots of gas and had badly blocked intestines - this is why he could not eat, vomited bile etc... We gave consent to treat him for the blockage, because he would not let anyone but his foster mom touch him, he couldn’t be boarded at vet hospital, so daily trips were made for him to get his 2-3 bags of IV saline and injections to help flush out his intestinal blockages, that took about 2-3 months before he was finally cleared of that. All the trips to the vet have worked out good for his social training, he went from hating the car and not cooperating to get in, to getting all excited with the open car door! We also saw him relax a bit and stop shaking, his growling toned down and we were on our way to working on his social skills… But that ‘healthy spell’ was not to last, recently we found he could not open mouth to eat, drink, or pant; Cappy had lost muscle mass in his head and jaw, this caused odd looking dents in his head and severe case of lockjaw. Vet diagnosed w rare immune disorder which we are currently treating him for. the disease is cruel, painful and can be deadly, also it is not a quick fix, treatments can take a year to complete… (there are more details on “masticatory myostasis” in main fundraiser post).
Please donate generously to help Captain’s rescue to continue to pay off his large vet bills, continue his care, pay for his medicines and such. “Cappy” is in loving foster home and is doing well in his fight to recover. He is getting physical therapy and enjoying daily hot dogs with pills hidden inside along with RX canned dog food… Please donate to Join the journey to recovery with Cappy,
