Mysti’s life didn’t start out well.
She was, at best, neglected, kept in a basement cage because she wasn’t the kind of pet her first person wanted.
When we adopted her, we also brought home Daisy, a stray who had been rescued separately. The two had already become a bonded pair, and together they found their forever home with us.
Mysti has always been shy and elusive, only wanting attention on her terms. But she’s also incredibly sweet. If Daisy came for pets, Mysti would, too. We just had to be patient, and she rewarded us with quiet trust.
Over time, she settled into the simple comforts of home: sleeping by the fire, perched on window ledges, and stretched out over heating grates. For the first time, she knew safety, warmth, and love.
Recently, Mysti became very ill, very quickly. Though our vet was providing care, they didn’t seem to recognize just how close to death she was (the hospital's words, literally). We could see it, though, and rushed her to Capital City Veterinary Hospital, where she was admitted into intensive care.
With fluids around the clock, antibiotics, and expert attention, she’s begun to show small signs of improvement. Her doctors are now preparing to give her a blood transfusion, which should help her feel better while they continue to search for the cause of her illness. Her case doesn’t quite fit into any classic pattern, but with specialists guiding her care, we finally have hope of answers.
This kind of treatment is lifesaving but (as many of you know) also very expensive. Pet insurance covers 90% of the costs, but I am responsible for the remaining 10% plus taxes. That’s already estimated at around $3,500 if she were to leave by Monday. And since she isn’t yet stable enough for one of the tests she needs, it may be more. As a single, sole support parent, this is more than I can manage on my own (even with a side gig, which I thankfully picked up recently!).
If you’re able to contribute, even $10 helps, and sharing this page is also a huge support. Every bit goes directly toward Mysti’s care. We are so grateful for anything you can do, whether donating or simply spreading the word.
I’ll keep everyone updated so you can see how Mysti is doing.
Thank you for being part of her journey and for helping us give her the chance to heal and return to the quiet joys she loves, curled by perched in her window in the summer, laying close to the fire in the winter, and always close by Daisy’s side.
