Max is a cute small dog (only 10 pounds).Ā He has two years old, and in his short life, he has already experienced some difficult things. Little by little, he lost his sight; a white cloud covered his eyes. Today, he is completely blind in his right eye and has some vision in his left. The diagnosis is hypermature cataracts.Ā Despite his rough start, he is loving and friendly.

Max had a family, but they decided to abandon him because he "chased the chickens." The shelter directors saw his owners about to abandon him in front of the shelter and decided to talk to them. They ultimately took him in because it was too risky for this nearly blind little dog to be left there.

The shelter is located in a rural area of āāGuatemala and houses more than 300 medium and large dogs. The kennels were already full, and there wasn't a safe space for Max, so they placed him in the area for cats with feline leukemia. We can't imagine how difficult it was for Max to find himself alone in an unfamiliar place. Fortunately, a volunteer offered to give him a temporary home. There, Max is safe and surrounded by people who care for him.

The veterinarian examined Max's eyes and indicated that surgery is possible. It's a delicate procedure, so will be performed by veterinary doctors specializing in ophthalmology.Ā This procedure would give this dog the chance to see again. And, most importantly, he would have the opportunity to be adopted. The surgery will take place in April, but we need to raise the money for it. The amount to be raised is $1,335 and includes the veterinary consultation, pre-operative retinal and blood tests, the surgery (special price for Max), weekly follow-up appointments after the surgery, and the eye drops he will need daily for at least six weeks.
