8 months ago, October 2023, I watched a moving truck leave my street
with all of my neighbour's belongings. After all the dust settled I
realised that he left the most precious of his belongings on the
street. 8 of his cats were left confused, scared and bewildered
sitting on the pavement outside their home, not understanding why they
could no longer go inside where they felt safe. My heart shattered.
Hi, my name is Marianna and I am a rescuer and volunteer in
Limassol, Cyprus. The majority of my volunteering is in dog rescue but
I cannot turn a blind eye to an animal in need which is why I also
carry out TNR locally.
The moment I realized how vulnerable
these cats were I knew it was up to me to help them survive. They
needed an anchor. I started by feeding them, befriending them,
checking on their health. 4 adults (Aino, Buddy, Mistletoe & Tina)
and 4 kittens ( Juno, Ivy, Maisa. & Tigger). Shortly after being
abandoned Ivy, one of the kittens, was involved in an accident, which
lead to having her leg amputated but thanks to fellow rescuers
stepping in Ivy is enjoying life in her home in Austria.
On
December 28th 2023, Ivy's mother Mistletoe and sister Juno went
missing and have not been seen since 😔. I never knew my heart could
break in so many fragments but still beat. The remaining 5 became my
mission. All were spayed /neutered, vaccinated and fed by me twice a
day. They had everything but a home.... UNTIL NOW. These amazing
felines who have put their trust in me now have the opportunity to fly
to the UK where homes are waiting to welcome them. Aino, Buddy, Maisa,
Tigger and Tina ALL have secured homes with the help of a group of
dedicated feline lovers at Feline Fine Foundation in the UK.
This is a remarkable accomplishment and my heart leaps for joy,
because I will finally do right by them. However it all comes at a
great cost. Vet bills, Flight fare, export documents, crate costs,
maintenance all add up to an amount beyond my salary and financial
capabilities.
The purpose of this fundraiser is to ensure that
they will board that plane. If more funds are collected it will go
towards my continued TNR work which has no end.
