Hi there!
Thank you for taking time out of your day to come and read Ed’s story.
Ed is a male, 9 month old (approximately), disabled cane corso.
My family rescued Ed from being killed as he was deemed of no use and unsellable.
My 1st instinct was, and later agreed by a vet when I took him for a health check up, that he is the result of severe inbreeding.
This has led to Ed having a deformed face and leg, which presents as a very swollen, clicking patella (knee) and underdeveloped structure that includes the foot and muscles of his rear left leg.
He also has cherry eye, a deformed snout which is shorter than it should be, and causes a form of stenotic nares, where the nostrils are too small, making breathing very difficult.
When he 1st came to me, Ed was skin and bone, and his coat was dull and flaky, but I have slowly been able to put weight on him, although he still needs more, and his coat is now all soft and shiny.
When I took him to the PDSA about his cherry eye and leg, the vet said that they wouldn’t want to take any action until he is a bit older and more developed. But him being put to sleep cannot be ruled out 😞💔. Although he did say that his hips and heart seemed ok.
Ed is fed the most nutritious food and given supplements and anti-inflammatory pain medication when he needs it, but as he is growing I can tell that his leg is getting worse. He cannot walk far without limping or it giving way, and this little monkey loves to try zoomies! He is such a loving boy who just wants to be able to run through fields and along the beach where we live.
Unfortunately, Ed will need surgery on his snout, eye, and leg. I am quite happy for the leg to be amputated if it means no more pain for him, but before that is even an option, he will need lots of tests and x rays. All of which cost a lot of money.
So, I made the decision to share this special dog with the World in the hope that everyone will fall in love with him as much as we, and anyone that has had the privilege of meeting him has.
I know that times are hard, and money is tight across the board…. but any donation, no matter how small, will go directly towards his veterinary costs.
Hopefully together we can give this beautiful soul a happy, pain-free life, however long or short that may be.
Thank you so much for reading.
Hollie x
