Wild at Life e.V. hasn't added a story.
Bred to be shot by trophy hunters and then their bones shipped
to Asia, Georges the crooked tail lion and 3 Lioness’s were set to
be doomed! NGO, Wild at Life e.V. has started to implement a
dramatic rescue plan ~ but we need your help to secure their
successful rescues, relocation and futures or if we don’t succeed
with our target their future will end in The Asian Bone Trade.
Will you help us set them free?
(A captive lion stands in a dark
shed at a Legal Lion Farm In South Africa).
This is Mission 2: Canned Lion Rescue by NGO, Wild at Life e.V.
Georges is just one of an estimated 8000 captive-bred lions kept at more than 200 farms and compounds in South Africa .
It is part of a cruel, abusive and poorly regulated industry. Incredibly, there are now nearly four times as many captive-bred lions in the country as there are wild lions.
Canned hunting is shooting captive bred animal in confined areas. It covers other definitions such as captive hunting, high-fence hunting and ranch hunting as well. Today, canned hunting is widespread in South Africa where large numbers of wild animals are being bred in captivity specifically to be shot.
Last year our NGO, Wild at Life e.V. successfully rescued 10 lions destined for the bullet in South Africa. Whilst leaving we noticed Georges, a lonely lion with a crooked tail and vowed to go back to rescue him before he too ended up as a trophy hunt and then his Bones sent to Asia to be used in traditional but ‘bogus’ Medicines.
Our successful rescue of Lions last year from a Lion farm where that had been kept in ashes was featured on many international media outlets: https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.ladbible.com/news/animals-the-moment-10-lions-are-rescued-from-farm-in-south-africa-20200915.amp.html
Sadly the demand for traditional medicine is fuelling a boom in the number of lions being bred and killed for their bones. The ‘cruel and cynical industry’ sees endangered predators often kept in appalling conditions and raised solely for their body parts.
Even after Minister Creecy announced on the 2nd May 2021, that South Africa would no longer breed captive lions, or use captive lions or their derivatives commercially this will take time to implement and until we empty all canned hunting farms we will never rest.
While we organised the rescue of Georges for this month we became aware of another 3 hidden Lionesses, Elma, Eva and Julie.
The 3 Lioness’s currently caged in a small cage awaiting breeding and then Slaughter.
Wild at Life has a total of 4 Lions to save that are destined to
become someone's trophy in a 'canned hunt': one in which the lion is
shot in a enclosed space with no chance of escape.
Can you help us implement their rescue and set these 4 Lions free?
Georges the lonely lion with a crooked tail awaits his doom as well
as the 3 Lionesses, Elma, Eva and Julie. Our teams are expert
volunteers, the 4 Lions will be relocated safely and then driven to
a private sanctuary that will see them thrive and live together in a
pride where these beautiful animals can live peacefully and
display natural behaviours while receiving the best possible care.
However, without your support the future of this vitally
important project will be thrown into doubt.
Georges, Julie, Eva and Elma.
If we hit our target; we are then set to move in the next week and
will update with every step we make and they have all secured a
placenta at a private sanctuary that will see then thrive. The
location of the Lions is held private for the safety of the Lions
and our team members.
