Founded in 2014, the Second Hand Dog Rescue has rescued and rehomed over 5000 pets. We primarily help dogs but have helped some cats and other domestic animals along the way. We operate solely through adoption fees and donations and get no government funding. 

The current situation in our society right now is that people are surrendering their pets at record numbers and we are struggling to get the funds and fosters to help them. 

Just in the last 2 months we’ve taken in 46 dogs locally and from high kill shelters. Our vet bills are nearly 20,000 in just the last 2 months and over the last year it’s over 163,000 just veterinary care alone (not counting dog food, transport, housing/boarding insurance, equipment etc etc)

There are currently not enough rescues to save even very adoptable animals and we take on some of the more difficult cases in addition to the “easy “ ones.

We also need donations of dog food, puppy pads, treats, toys, clean used linens and towels, and other pet supplies which can be dropped or mailed to 276 Cedarwood terrace Rochester NY 14609. By giving to this fundraiser we get immediate access to funds to help the Dogs who need help now  - we are treating multiple Heartworm positive dogs who are in different stages to kill the deadly parasites. These funds will help the  43 dogs lined up to get spayed and neutered in the spring to help stop the epidemic of pet overpopulation.
