Gatsby is a handsome 3 year old Pembroke Welsh Corgi who has been in pain for the last eleven months. During this time his owner Brittany has taken him to his regular vet, emergency specialists, physical therapists, and a neurologist. Gatsby had x-rays, countless physical exams, was given every medication suggested, and completed 8 weeks of crate rest. Gatsby also went through 6 weeks of physical rehab and laser therapy, and Brittany even purchased a laser therapy mat for at-home treatments. Also tried were chiropractic adjustments and Adequan shots, but nothing brought him lasting relief.
Every vet agreed that Gatsby was in pain, but no one could say why. Unfortunately his pain started to turn into aggression, and Brittany knew something had to be done quickly. The only option that remained was to do an MRI and cervical spinal tap (CSF). Because so much had already been expended, and because of the high cost of the MRI, Brittany put up a GoFundMe, and she also contacted Bandit’s K9Care for assistance.
Gatsby had his MRI and CSF at the University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center on June 3rd. The CFS analysis was normal, but the neurologist did see an Intervertebral Disc Extrusion (bulging disc) in his neck between the C2-C3 joint in his neck. The neurologist was surprised that Gatsby was not yet exhibiting any neurological deficits. But because Gatsby had not responded well to medical management she recommend surgery at the earliest possible date.
The estimate for surgery is between $4,500 and $6,500, with 3/4 of the high end ($4,875) due when Gatsby is checked in for surgery, and the balance required at check out. Thanks to the generosity of the GoFundMe donors and with the assistance of Bandit’s K9Care, close to half of what is needed is already available. Therefore the goal of this fundraiser is the balance needed to get Gatsby into surgery as soon as possible.
Thank you so much for your support. It means the world to Gatsby’s family, and to us!
