My current service dog is 10yrs old and was recently diagnosed with cancer.
I have been on a list for a new puppy for a year.
My only income is low fix disability income.
I don’t have the ability to earn extra income as it means I could lose my disability benefits!
A puppy has become available to me in early September the cost is
$6000 and I don’t have the money!
I have trained 8 therapy dogs and my last 2 service dogs mostly
myself! I need to have another trainer do testing and
certification.
I use to volunteer my time to teach puppy
kindergarten classes at the local AKC kennel club. Also went out to
local grade schools and taught the responsibilities of pet ownership
and dog bite prevention.
I have never asked for help but don’t know what else to do at this
point! I can’t live without my service dog!
I had a patient who
said to me “ doesn’t it make you feel good when you are able to help
someone “ I said Yes! He then said “Why would you ever want to take
that away from someone else? By not letting them help you? I guess
what I’m saying is I’m humbling myself to you & thank you for any
help you are able to give me!
The current cost for a service dog that I need to get able to
function on a daily basis is more than half of my yearly
income!
please consider that I loved my job and would give
anything to be able to work helping others again!
I was a founding member of Golden retriever rescue in Nebraska and Iowa. I was also involved with Newfoundland rescue in the Midwest region.
I volunteer thousands of hours doing pet therapy at hospitals and nursing homes.
Im a former first responder who became disabled suddenly 25yrs ago from a spinal fracture. During the surgery to repair the fractured vertebrae I contacted staph infection in my spinal cord which is usually fatal. I was very lucky to have survived!
I recently had to go to the emergency room because my legs gave out
and I fell. This led to a 6 day hospital stay & the diagnosis of
arachnoiditis and myelomalacia. Which means my spinal cord is slowly
dying at thoracic level 8.
I can walk now but I could lose the
ability at anytime.
If you are able to help with the cost of my service dog and training costs I would be forever grateful and happy to post updates!
God Bless and Take care of each other!
